Next Flight Out: premium time-critical
solutions with ACS

When every minute counts, ACS Time Critical’s Next Flight Out (NFO) service is the difference between meeting a deadline and missing it. As one of our premium time-critical solutions, NFO ensures urgent shipments are prioritised on the very next available flight, delivering speed, reliability, and cost efficiency.

To unpack how NFO works, we sat down with Ash McCook, Global Director of NFO, who explains the process, shares insights into how the service has evolved, and highlights why ACS is uniquely positioned to deliver world-class NFO solutions.

Q&A with Ash McCook

What is an NFO?

Q: What is an NFO, and how does it differ from a standard courier service?

Ash: An NFO is essentially a higher-priority product. It’s a ‘must ride as booked’ service, meaning your shipment is placed on the next flight out with guaranteed priority. Unlike standard courier services, which rely on fixed schedules and limited tracking milestones, NFO leverages scheduled services across a global network to ensure maximum flexibility and speed.

Q: Why may customers use an NFO service?

Ash: Customers choose NFO when deadlines are tight but budgets must remain cost-effective. It’s a tailored solution with expansive global reach, designed to meet urgent requirements without the cost of chartering an entire aircraft.

Q: Why is NFO a better solution than other time-critical services?

Ash: Compared to options like charter flights or Onboard Couriers (OBCs), NFO is far more cost-effective. It delivers a similar express timeline but saves significantly on costs, making it a smarter choice for many industries.

Q: How do we track your time-critical NFO shipment?

Ash: Every NFO shipment receives both an ACS Enquiry number and a commercial air waybill number, trackable via airline cargo tracking sites. Unlike standard scheduled services, which only provide milestone updates, NFO offers full visibility throughout the route, ensuring customers know exactly where their shipment is at all times.

How does the booking process work – and why ACS Time Critical?

Q: How does the process of booking an NFO with ACS work?

Ash: This will vary from country to country, and also change depending on the type of request, but the process will be similar. Once a shipment request is made, and more is learnt about the items needing transportation (including method of packing), our team arranges pickup and delivery availability at both the origin and destination. At the same time, we check commercial airline schedules from the nearest departure airport to ensure the shipment can be accommodated and delivered to the consignee’s nearest destination airport.Costs are compiled simultaneously for door‑to‑door or door‑to‑airport services, giving customers clear options. Once confirmed, the booking is made directly with our assets and airline partners. The added value comes from ACS’s ability to manage this end‑to‑end process quickly and reliably, ensuring urgent shipments move without delay.

Q: Why is ACS Time Critical in a stronger position to deliver NFO solutions?

Ash: ACS brings together over 30 years of expertise, a global network of carriers, and long‑standing customer relationships built throughout the charter industry. This strong foundation enables us to deliver NFO services that are streamlined, reliable, and tailored to urgent needs.

We provide:
Door‑to‑door solutions with real‑time updates;
Specialist knowledge and rapid response times; and
Worldwide coverage with flexible, customer‑focused options.

By combining speed, cost efficiency, and dependability, ACS has become the trusted partner for businesses that rely on time‑critical logistics.

Market Insights: How NFO is evolving

Q: How has NFO changed over time? What are customers using it for now versus when you started?

Ash: NFO has become more accessible thanks to digitalisation and e-booking platforms. Customers now use NFO for urgent scenarios such as automotive assembly line stoppages, critical project deadlines in high-tech industries, and even fast-moving sectors like fashion.

Q: Have certain industries come to rely on NFO more than others?

Ash: Absolutely. Automotive remains the number one industry using NFO services, but we’ve seen significant growth in Aerospace, specifically AOG (Aircraft on Ground) cases, where NFO is more cost-effective than chartering. We have also seen an increase in uptake from the medical and life sciences industries, alongside wider technical manufacturers (including those who use superconductors) who choose to leverage NFO to meet consumer demand. Alongside these industries, we continue to see use of NFO to aid response to emergencies in the case of natural disasters and to further humanitarian work.
NFO is more than just a logistics solution, it’s a lifeline for industries where timing is everything. With ACS Time Critical’s expertise, global reach, and commitment to innovation, customers can trust that their urgent shipments will always arrive in the fastest possible way.
